beetroot : insperiment

Regular readers of this blog would know that I often get inspired and experiment with vegetables - the design qualities of some of our lovely veges are outstanding. Yesterday, I insperimented with beetroots. I really like the rings you get from cutting a beetroot in half, as well as the vibrant colour.

What I really wanted to see was what sort of print I could create from a cut beetroot. It's a bit school-esk, but I thought it might give me an idea ...

I ended up with some interesting shapes in my sketchbook, so I thought I might use some of it to create something to hang in my studio...

Who knows where this idea will end up, but it was fun to do. Enjoy your Monday - for many it is the first day back at work after a longish break - hang in there!

It's fabulous to have time to just insperiment and play around.... you never know when you'll find the next great idea!

Insperiment, insperiment, insperiment – I think I will pinch that word and use it as my word for 2010! I need more insperimenting in my days. Thanks for the inspiration Nic; I can’t wait to see where your insperimenting takes you in 2010.

if we don't insperiment then we don't get any new ideas! its great - i love that colour!
we have to keep trying and doing! have you seen that movie Garbage Warrior? he basically says that we need to experient to make mistakes to come up with new ideas that do work! Exactly like this!!!

I wonder if you can dye fabric with beetroot....? (That's what I first thought of when I saw this post)

Lovely hypothesis there Nic. It takes me back to the days when I did a bit of plant dying. I had the beetroot dress, the onion skin skivvy and a grey top (I think it was from gum leaves?) I should dig out that old book one day. Happy insperimenting!
