navy + red ... and a winner!

Thanks to everyone who entered my spring giveaway and told told me  their favourite colour combinations ~ you will be seeing some of those "in the ink" over the coming months! For now, I am indulging in one of my favourite colour combo's ... navy and red ... applied to my retro canisters tea towel ...

The crispness of these two colours together (I think) really works ~ red is always hard to resist for me, and navy always looks smart. I did a very small print run of these tea towels, and they are available in the shop now ~ be quick if you'd like one.

And now ... the lucky (random) winner of the spring giveaway is ....

Melinda from Paperklip! Congratulations!

I hope everyone has a spiffy week!

it's a spring giveaway ...

Spring has arrived (I'm still on southern hemisphere time ~ especially as there is no sign of autumn here!) and it seems a perfect excuse to have a spring inspired giveaway ... issue 1, 2 and 3 of Mollie Makes magazine (these babies are collectible!) and a (very) limited edition retro canisters tea towel ...

I've been collecting Mollie Makes from the start ~ I just love this magazine. The projects, style and aesthetic are really perfect and make me want to make stuff! These magazines are new/unused and probably quite collectible by now - especially as they all have their little project kits on the front too.

A few weeks ago I was printing my retro spice canisters tea towel, and felt like changing up the colours. I printed this colour combo of pink and tangerine for the lovely Cam, but kept one (this one) to give away. I think the colours are fun and spring-timey, and go really well with Mollie Makes!

To win this little package of happiness, leave me a comment with you favourite colour combination. Let me know if you are a follower of this blog and/or a facebook liker and/or a twitter follower and you'll get an extra entry for each. Everyone is welcome to enter ~ I'm happy to post internationally. Get your comments in by next Sunday (11 September) and I'll draw a winner soon after.

Have a great week!

gayware ... addicted!

I really think I need all of these lovely gayware "kitchen aids" ...

... but especially these "glamour" salt and pepper shakers!

I got the original gayware magazine ad here. WARNING - there are lots and lots of tempting retro canisters and other vintage treasures to buy on this website. Approach with caution!

Bonus - vintage recipes on the back of the ad - the Mimosa Salad sounds nice! More vintage finds here!

gayware

Thanks to Kylie (from Lucy Violet Vintage), I now know (by looking at the bottom of my canisters), that I'm a collector of Gayware!

Have a great day!

worth it!

The cold and the rain this morning at Camberwell Market was totally worth it, because I found these pristine beauties ...

These lovely red canisters will be right at home with my other little canisters also found at Camberwell Market (and the subjects of one of my tea towel designs) ...

I love the colours, shape and text of these retro canisters ... I think I'm now a "collector".
Hope you've found some good stuff lately! See what other treasures have been found this week over here.

RED retro canisters

For something a bit different, I printed my (normally multi-coloured) retro spice canisters in red last week. I really like the look, and it totally satisfies my red obsession. There is one hanging in my kitchen already!

These tea towels are now available in the Yardage Design online shop, and will also be available to buy from Little Shop of Handmade in Carnegie from later today (when I drop them off!).

Incase you didn't know, the Finders Keepers Market is on in Melbourne this weekend. Yardage Design won't be there as a stall holder this time, but I will be popping in on Sunday for a bit of handmade shopping therapy. Maybe I'll see you there?

Have a great weekend!

P.S. Thanks so much for the kind words about my quilt yesterday - I was chuffed to say the least!

new tea towel design ... retro spice canisters

I have been toying with the idea of a canisters tea towel for more than a year now ... but it wasn't until I scored these lovely, bright, vintage spice canisters at Camberwell Market a few months ago, that I knew what I wanted to do.

Two things struck me about these canisters - the colours and the font used. The colours are old school and just really work well together, and the font is just so retro it was hard to resist. Can you guess what each of the spices are? I don't know for sure, but I have a pretty good idea ... let me know what you think!

The challenge of a five colour print was a little daunting at first, but I am just thrilled with both the results and the fact that I could actually do it. These tea towels take a while to print, but watching the colourful image build is very exciting. These will be available at the Finders Keepers Market this weekend, but I have also listed a few in the shop for those who can't make it.

vintage spice ...

I snaffled these at the Camberwell Market this morning ... I love everything about them ...

They remind me of a tea towel design I never really finished a while ago. See what others have found this week, here. Have a great Sunday!

canisters are go!

Thanks to everyone who posted their suggestions about naming my canisters on Thursday's post. It was so difficult to pick just one winner, that I ended up picking two! Congratulations and thanks to Liesl from Hoppo Bumpo and Peta from Pippiwillow for their clever ideas. I've had a quick go at putting them on the canisters so you can see ...

I still need to work on the fonts and styling, but I'm loving a "twist on tradition" and a bit of inspiration (which would particularly appeal to Melbournians right now!!).

On the way to Liesl and Peta this week will be a little surprise package of goodies - here's a sneak peak ...

Thanks again to everyone who participated - you make blogland what it is - a treasure trove of ideas and a nice place to be!

Have a great week!

my creative space ... and giveaway!

I've been inspired by my latest ebay bargain - some vintage shelf runners ...

So I've been playing with some rows of canisters ... perhaps for printing onto the bottom of tea-towels or aprons ... here are a few options so far ...

Seems I might be a bit sugar deficient (NOT!). I like the idea of using a traditional font with non-traditional words/contents on each of the canisters. Hmmmm ... any other suggestions? There will be a surprise giveaway for the best suggestion - put your thinking caps on and have fun with it! I'll draw a winner on Sunday night at 9pm (eastern daylight savings time).
