what's in a name?

It's taken me ages to come up with a design name that not only suits the sort of things I want to create, but strikes a chord with me personally. For me, it's also all about the font!! When I finally decided on yardage as my design name, I spent hours fiddling with fonts. Anyway, this is the first yardage thing I made - a denim shoulder bag with some Liberty trim and the design name embriodered. It makes it feel real when it's in the flesh!

I hope you're having a great Friday - cheers to the weekend!

A journey of a thousand miles ...

... begins with a single step, and this is my first step into the crafty land of blogging!

I need an outlet - I love all things sewing, designing, cooking and home stuff, and I'm looking forward to throwing my ideas and thoughts out into the ether and seeing what comes back.

I've been reading other peoples blogs for a few months, and now it's my turn to pipe up!

I only learnt about blogging and the indie craft scene this year at the Melbourne Stitches and Craft Show. I was lucky enough to hear Bianca from Hollabee and Ink & Spindle talk about starting a home based craft business. I was inspired, to say the least! What the wonderful people at the craft show have achieved through passion, dedication, hard work and a bundle of laughs is amazing.

So here I am. Having a go. I hope you enjoy my journey - although I suspect no-one will know I'm here for a while and this will be my journey journal. Either way - I'm looking forward to it!

Anyway, it seems a blog post is not a "real" blog post without a pic. So here's one to start. I was travelling around the Marysville area on the weekend, and was taken with the beauty of the trees healing themselves after the Black Saturday Fires ...

My sketchbook got a good workout after the trip - nature really is the best idea factory!

Talk soon!
