You've probably heard me say before that I think blogging (and social media generally) is amazing. Not just for the friends you make, but the amazing talents you get to admire and be inspired by. My friend Vic is one such person, and last weekend she gave me the nicest gift anyone has ever made me ...

Vic is an artist and illustrator extraordinaire, with real style. You might recognise the above illustration from the photo in my sidebar. I'm calling this illustration "Nic by Vic", and as soon as it's framed it will be going straight to the studio!

craft camp :: a patchwork of friends + fabric + fun

What a weekend I've just had! My first ever crafty weekend away, and it was wonderful. I was lucky enough to win a weekend at The Retreat at Woodend, and then be joined by some really clever and funny ladies ~ thanks to each of you. We crafted, chatted and ate amazing food. We all had different projects to work on, but I also brought some block printing supplies for people to experiment with, which resulted in some really lovely designs. This is Vic working on her awesome mix tape block:

You can see some of my fabrics in the foreground. I spent the weekend working on a patchwork to hang in behind the glass panel in the entrance door to my new studio (incase anyone was wondering!). It was a "random" (which took forever to place!) patchwork of some of my favourite fabrics ...

I had such a great weekend! The Retreat is lovely ~ more like a small hotel than a house, and fitted out with everything you could need. I can't recommend it highly enough for those of you looking for a great place to have a crafty weekend away. Thanks Abbe ~ we'll be back!

my creative space :: progress!

After a concerted effort yesterday. my new studio space is coming together. Things have been sorted, stored and tidied. However, this is the only really finished corner ~ the screens and inks.

Today it's going to be all about the table ~ it needs to be lined and made ready for printing ~ a week of no printing means there lots to do! I'm looking forward to my first print run ~ fingers crossed it will be later this morning.

Also, I can't wait to get some things on the walls ~ then it will be "home".

Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes and words about my new studio. Everything was moved in without a hitch yesterday (maybe just a few sore muscles, but that's OK!), and now begins the task of setting everything up. I have been taking some pics as I go and will post some over the weekend.

my creative space :: new beginnings

Today, I am moving my creative space to new premises. It has been in the pipeline for a few months (which means I have been wanting to blurt it out for ages), but today is moving day! Yardage Design has a new studio/retail space in the Mercator Building at the Abbotsford Convent. It feels like Christmas!

I cannot wait to be in my new space ~ it's about three times bigger than my current space, and gives me so many possibilities. I will be sharing some pics of my progress over the coming days here on this blog and on instagram (@yardagedesign).
