worth it!

The cold and the rain this morning at Camberwell Market was totally worth it, because I found these pristine beauties ...

These lovely red canisters will be right at home with my other little canisters also found at Camberwell Market (and the subjects of one of my tea towel designs) ...

I love the colours, shape and text of these retro canisters ... I think I'm now a "collector".
Hope you've found some good stuff lately! See what other treasures have been found this week over here.

you owe it to your home ...

According to the May 1934 edition of Home Chat magazine I picked up from Camberwell Market this morning, we owe it to our home to "give it a thorough turn-out from attic to cellar once a year".  Of course we do!!

I also found a great book called "Weldon's Encyclopaedia of Needlework" which includes everything from tatting to dressmaking.

I took my camera to the market this morning, and snapped a few pics as I wandered around, for those that have never been. Camberwell Market is run by Rotary and is held every Sunday morning in the carpark behind Burke Road in Camberwell (more info here). It's a pretty big space and is always choc-a-block full of people selling "treasure". You know the saying - one persons trash is another persons treasure. The best stuff can be found early - before 8am - but if you're prepared to fossick, you will always find something you love before the market ends at 12.30pm. Vintage and retro are the main categories here, but you can pretty much find anything from furniture, to military antiques. The "button lady" is always on my list of places to stop - she has the most amazing collection of buttons, knitting needles, odd sewing stuff. I always stop and say hi to Bec from Little Shop too. Here are a few pics ...

The view of a small part of the market from the balcony at Target
A treasure trove!
One of the prettiest stalls I saw today was by Flo & Olive (they have an etsy store too!)
The lovely Bec from Little Shop of Handmade has a stall selling her beautiful jewellery every Sunday (she's in the shadows crocheting while Mr Little Shop is on duty!)
I hope you're weekend is great so far. It's a glorious day here in Melbourne, so we're off to to the local school fete. To check out what other people have found this week from markets and op-shops, visit Her Library Adventures.

retro

Found at Camberwell Market yesterday ... love! It's in perfect condition and was a bargain (to me) at $10 - I talked the guy down from $12!

Reminds me of my school days in the 80s. I never had one of these, but I could have stored my favourite erasers in the little drawers and my best highlighters in the pen containers!

Have a retro Monday!

at the market this morning ...

It was a little quiet at Camberwell Market - probably because heavy rain was predicted that still hasn't eventuated. I managed to pick up some lovely buttons ...

I think I'll make the larger one into a necklace ... will have to add it to the loooooong list of things to do! I love how it's made ...

Have a great Sunday!

vintage turquoise tile

Found at Camberwell Market this morning ...

I love the colour and design of this tile - I'm loving art nouveau design at the moment. I think I might glue some felt to the bottom of this and use it as a trivet. More market finds from everyone else here.

This little retro number might be useful for the Show, might not - I like it anyway! For more great finds, visit Sophie at Her Library Adventures!

market find!

After eating our weight in chocolate for breakfast, we all staggered down to the Sunday Market at Camberwell for a squizz. I've been going almost every week for the last month or so, searching for special things that I can use to display my wares at the looming Melbourne Stitches and Craft Show. Today was a good day - I found this gorgeous vintage sewing box ...

It needs a bit of TLC, but it is well made out of oak, with brass hardware - a nice bit of oil will bring it up a treat. I plan to reupholster the lid/seat and inside with my own fabric - I cant' wait to see how it looks!

I hope you've managed to score some great stuff this week too, like these people have! Happy Easter, and enjoy the rest of your day!

market finds ...

Little Mister came with me to the markets this morning, which was good (because you get to move around pretty slowly and see things you otherwise might not) and not so good (aparently we had to stop at EVERY stall selling toys!). Still, we both came home happy - lots of dinosaur books for him, and these treasures for me ...

Some lovely red and blue trim ... love it!

A box of pool balls ... I want lots more of these - I have a picture in my mind of a large glass vessel full of these coloured balls, and I have just the spot for it on the bookcase. For now, an old vase will do!

Last, but not least, a vintage doiley - green for a change ...

I hope you've found some treasures this week too. To share yours, or to check out what others have found pop over to Her Library Adventures. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

flea market finds ...

I'm playing along with Sophie and lots of others, and sharing my market finds this week. I found some real gems this morning at Camberwell Market - worth getting up early for! This metal butterfly caught my eye under a heap of other stuff ...

I also found a small platter that matches some china I'm collecting. It's called Creampetal by Grindley of England. The bowl was my Nana's, and I found the jug last year at the markets, and today I found the platter - happy days!

I also found a lovely old bottle/jar to put one of my M* hand crochetted and beaded covers (that I got yesterday at the Northside Makers Market), as well as the retro jug in the background.

Here's the other jug cover I bought yesterday - I just love them!

Pop in here to get the lowdown on some great finds (and sources), or to share your market/thrift/op shop finds.
