studio friday

There has been a lot going on in my little studio this week :: lots, and lots, and lots of ink mixing and colour testing ...

Some colours for me, and some for custom work I'm doing at the moment ...

There has been a little bit of printing, including this little freckle experiment this morning, which was a bit of fun! {I'm making this one into a cushion for home}

All in all, it's been a good week! Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

friday in the studio

I had a very productive Friday in my little home studio ... this is me in my old Sunbeam apron that I use to print in - I will never throw this apron away - it has been with me from day one ...

Printing vintage tram roll menu tea towels ready for a new stockist ...

I also dropped this big bundle of bolts in to be handprinted with my first yardage designs ... not much longer to wait until I will have my own fabric ... just in time to be launched at Stitches & Craft In Melbourne in 3 weeks time ...

I hope your Friday was productive too. Enjoy the weekend ahead!

my creative space ...

The decorating continues in my creative space this week! After fiddling around with colour samples, I finally chose my shade of green for the window wall, and started to prepare for painting by scraping off the flaking old paint and loose render from the last 100 years or so ...

... then I realised I had gotten carried away ...

... and then I realised that to do the whole wall would take hours and hours, so I stopped! But, I'm a bit of a sucker for original charm, so I came up with a way to "preserve" the bare brick look and have a bit of colour on the wall ...

I have some mdf letters that spell "Yardage Design" that I'm going to paint and arrange in the brick circle. I haven't had time to paint the pipe yet (although it looks OK in white now the wall is painted - no?), but I'm still thinking I might paint it bright red like the bargain ebay cane chairs I got a few weeks ago ...

These babies are waiting to show-off some handprinted fabric on the cushions! I'm really looking forward to my screens arriving tomorrow - it will be a big moment for me.

I just thought I'd add that the last remaining studio spaces here at Ironside have just been released, so if you're in Melbourne and looking for a studio, contact Laura at Ironside Studios.

my creative space ...

... is sparse (at the moment), but all mine!

I picked up the keys yesterday, and now I can begin making this space more like "me". At the moment it only has a desk and chair (more ebay bargains), but my big printing table (from Ikea - love that place) arrives tomorrow. I'm thinking about an apple green colour for the window wall and maybe fire engine red or cobalt blue for the pipe - I need some colour!

I met some of my lovely neighbours yesterday too - including Sandra from Pepperberry and Co. It's great to be surrounded by people who "get it"!

Aside from that, it's all about businessy stuff here - like getting screens  made and ordering base cloth fabric. I hope to be printing sometime next weeek - yahoo!

my creative space ... a new ad(venture)

It's been a big couple of weeks. I've finally taken the plunge - I've filled out lots of forms and established my very own little business - Yardage Design.

Yesterday, I signed the papers to lease a studio - eeeeek! Eighteen whole square metres for me to ... create, make a mess, create some more ... whatever takes my fancy!

My studio (so cool to write that! sorry!) is part of the Ironside Studios in Kensington - down the hall from Susan at Spin Spin Handmade, and around the corner from the girls at Ink & Spindle. This is the front entrance to the studios ...

This is what the inside of my studio looks like at the moment - in the middle of getting painted and electricals ...

This is the groovy old pipe in one corner. I'm thinking about painting it a wild colour so it stands out more - the shapes are fantastic!

This is my favourite part of the space - a window (or half of one - sharing is nice!). It's covered in paint right now, but once scraped clean it will be lovely.

So that's my new space - I love it. I can't wait to get in there and put my stamp on it and get to work (hopefully only a couple of weeks away). I am busting to get printing.

To get another space fix, head over to Kootoyoo - you won't regret it!

Thanks for visiting.
