playing with pears ...

Today I've been playing with pears. I had drawn a pear in my sketch book ages ago - just a shape and a few seeds. I scanned it in and began playing. Here's what I've done so far ...

All I know so far is that I like the shape and I like the seeds, but I'm still playing with everything else! I want to do two things with this pear - make a stand alone design (could be multiple pears involved) and create a repeating pattern. The next step for me (usually) is to go off and do something completely different for a while, come back with fresh eyes and elinimate the crud, and work on what is left. It's kind of a process of elimination combined with experimentation. As I am not formally trained in graphic design, it's mostly guesswork and instinct as to what works for me. Hope you've been having a good weekend!

I love the pear shape. There's something so round and pleasing and plump about it. I love your pears. I crocheted the body of my bunny the other day and it looked exactely like a pear and I decided that when I finish my bunny I'll crochet a pear.

I love your images, I think a repeated pear pattern would look great! It's a shame that pears get a bum rap with that well used expression 'things going pear shaped' isn't it? Because really they are such a pleasing & positive shape. Good luck with your pear designs, who knows, maybe pears are the new fox?! xo

I'm a big pear fan too!!!
Love your ideas so far.
I think, but don't quote me on this, that in the islamic faith Eve ate a pear not an apple... but again - don't quote me on it.

Fantastic pears, I particularly love the one with the thick black out line and the seeds. Can’t wait to see where you go with this.

Pears pears pears. Yah! I did a pear print last year, and now my eyes spark up with I see them. Such a great shape, so fun to work with.
I sometimes wonder if not being a trained graphic designer gives you a freeness in your work, because you don't need to follow the rules.
Enjoy your experimentation.

I love the design development process, it's always such a creative stage playing with motifs. I also use the go-away-and-do-something-else-and-come-back-with-a-fresh-perspective method when creating a new fabric repeat!
The pears look great, looking forward to seeing the end result.

I love pears. I can't wait to see what you do with your new pear design. I make pear shaped cushions, I think pears are going to be the new 'in thing'. Have a happy Australia Day.
