pear shaped!

A few weeks ago, I had an idea for something a bit different to take to The Finders Keepers Market. I have admired Brenda's work for some time now, and wondered if she would make her gorgeous pears with my linen. She (thankfully) agreed and this was the result ...

I just love them!! Two sets of pears in each colourway (on natural linen) will be available at The Finders Keepers Market in about 10 days time. I also couldn't resist showing you how beautifully Brenda packaged up her pears to send to me. What a great idea to use old sewing patterns - looks brilliant with the red and white string - my kind of packaging!

Have a great day!

pears tea towel ... printed at last!

... at last ... my falling pears tea towel is printed! I was playing around with different settings for the photos this afternoon and thought it would look lovely hanging from one of our ornamental pear trees in the backyard. I just love the green - such a nice, fresh colour. I had actually half printed quite a few of these a couple of weeks ago, but they got a bit wet ...

Anyway, I really enjoyed printing my first two colour design ... especially once I'd worked out a little template for my table to ensure the registration of the two colour components was the same each time ...

And mixing ink colours is always great ... doesn't this look yummy enough to eat? OK, maybe not!

Anyway, the new pears tea towel is in the shop and on etsy now!
See you tomorrow for my creative space with Kootoyoo!

pear design progress ...

You might remember the pears I was playing with last weekend ... well I have ended up with this so far:

I really wanted something simple for the tea towels, and the opportunity to do a two colour print (my first one). Next on the agenda is some pattern work. Hope you're having a good start to the week!

playing with pears ...

Today I've been playing with pears. I had drawn a pear in my sketch book ages ago - just a shape and a few seeds. I scanned it in and began playing. Here's what I've done so far ...

All I know so far is that I like the shape and I like the seeds, but I'm still playing with everything else! I want to do two things with this pear - make a stand alone design (could be multiple pears involved) and create a repeating pattern. The next step for me (usually) is to go off and do something completely different for a while, come back with fresh eyes and elinimate the crud, and work on what is left. It's kind of a process of elimination combined with experimentation. As I am not formally trained in graphic design, it's mostly guesswork and instinct as to what works for me. Hope you've been having a good weekend!
