blogging - the holly grail

No - not a typo - Holly Becker is the blogging queen! She is the author of decor8 blog, and recently co-hosted the Blogging Your Way e-course which I took ... it was AMAZING! She's running another one in September, but in the mean time, she's just posted an interview she did with Darren from Problogger. The interview runs for about an hour, but covers some of the best advice and information you'll ever hear from a professional, successful and lovely blogger - how she started, what she's learnt and what's on the horizon. It really is worth a listen - I just sewed up a stack of tea towels while listening.

Julie & Julia + blogging ...

Just got back from seeing Julie & Julia at the movies. It was great - great story, great acting, funny and even mr yardage liked it!

As you would probably know, Julie is a blogger who blogs about cooking all of the recipes in Julia Child's book Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I found the bits of the movie about blogging really interesting and thought provoking ... are we all a part of a phenomenon that we will look back on in future years? Will we look back with pride? I think yes, and yes. It will eventually evolve, as all things do, but in essence people have been communicating and sharing with like-minded souls for ages using whatever technology or means are available at the time. We are lucky enough to have the internet and blogging!

As soon as I got home, I rushed to find Julie Powell's blog - the original one is here - the last entry is the day that Julia Child passed away (2004). Julie started another blog here. It's a good read, but you know what struck me straight away - the simplicity of the blog - just words - nothing else.

Anyway - that's my rambling for tonight! Go and see the movie if you can - it's really good.

P.S. The movie website also has some great foodie blogs on it - check them out here.

Happy blogging!

in stitches in sydney!

I've been in lovely, warm and sunny (so over Melbourne weather this year!) Sydney this past weekend - mainly to see my sister, but also to get to the Stitches and Craft Show. I made my way there on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I need to say upfront that I forgot my camera - du'oh!

First up was Jodie's (from Vintage Ric-Rac) studio session on blogging. It was really good info, but also one of the most entertaining and funny half hours I've had for ages. That woman is a gem!

Next was Level 4 - the indie crowd. What a wonderful array of talented people. It was vibrant, happy and full of creative inspiration. I was able to meet a whole stack of people who I follow in blogland - Pippijoe, Ink & Spindle, Kristen Doran Design, Sprout Design, Surface Art. Many thanks to everyone for being so friendly and making time for a chat!

Here are a couple of pics of things I bought while there - some lovely remnants from Surface Art and a resin ring from Trove ....

I'm already looking forward to the Melbourne show next year!
